Send Your Work to OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L)

OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L) invites emerging and established writers and artists from around the world to share original, previously unpublished work. The journal considers a wide range of literary and artistic expression—including fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, essays, criticism, reviews, interviews, visual art, and selected audio or video work—and values strong craft, intentional form, intellectual independence, and attention to lived experience.

If your work brings clarity, depth, imagination, and a distinctive point of view to contemporary arts and letters, O:JA&L would like to hear from you. Review the current calls and category-specific requirements, prepare a brief cover letter, and submit through the O:JA&L Submittable submissions manager. Submission availability may vary, so consult the portal for the latest open opportunities before sending your work.

The Buttonhook Press Masters Series

The Buttonhook Press Masters Series (from OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters and its Buttonhook Press imprint) gathers acclaimed writers for concise, downloadable chapbooks that pair fresh work with candid reflections on craft. Each installment—often framed by an interview with an associate editor—opens a window onto how masters of poetry, prose poetry, flash fiction, and related hybrid forms build voice, compression, and surprise. Designed as a reader’s invitation and a writer’s toolbox, the series celebrates literary art that moves fast, cuts deep, and lingers long after the last line.
