O:JA&L Poetry: All forms & styles
Andrew Furst
bullet

a bullet can take you and leave you.
it has a sharp
and simple end.
it holds its breath,
to tell the future
in a coarse and feathery voice.
a future, echoing
out of long past mornings,
under the spongy sound of rain underfoot.
counting,
to name each beat of the heart,
to watch the night fill up the day.
a future,
ruptured and stunned,
intersected, redirected, and unexpected.
