DALLY POST PRESS: Cowboy Poetry, Western Literature,
and the Living Voice of the American West

DALLY POST PRESS, an imprint of OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L), is dedicated to cowboy poetry and the enduring literary culture of the American West. Rooted in an oral tradition shaped by cattle trails, ranch work, bunkhouses, campfires, and public recitation, cowboy poetry carries lived experience through rhythm, rhyme, narrative, humor, and plainspoken truth. It is both western literature and occupational folk art: accessible in voice, exacting in craft, and alive to the land, labor, memory, and moral weather of range life.

That tradition is not a museum piece. Contemporary cowboy poets continue to write about horses and cattle, wilderness and weather, family and loss, changing rural economies, environmental pressures, and the tensions between the historic West and the modern world. DALLY POST PRESS gives those voices a focused publishing home—one where regional authenticity meets serious literary practice and where poems meant to be heard can also endure on the page.

Through its Broadside Series, Pamphlet Series, and Chapbook Series, DALLY POST PRESS presents concise, collectible editions designed for discovery, reading, sharing, and return. The Broadside Series spotlights individual works, including Doug Stoiber’s “Manhunt in Mossy Creek.” The Chapbook Series expands the range with sustained portfolios and craft-centered projects such as Rod Miller’s Saddle Work: The Art & Practice of Cowboy Poetry. An expanding catalog of pamphlet and chapbook titles extend the imprint’s commitment to preserving western voices while welcoming new work into the evolving cowboy poetry canon.

As part of O:JA&L’s free-press publishing program, DALLY POST PRESS connects readers, writers, educators, performers, ranching communities, and enthusiasts of American folklore with downloadable literary editions. Its mission is both archival and forward-looking: to honor the storytelling traditions of the American West, support accomplished and emerging cowboy poets, and broaden the audience for poetry grounded in work, place, and human consequence.

For readers searching for authentic cowboy poetry, western poetry, ranch writing, American West literature, spoken-word traditions, free poetry chapbooks, and contemporary western writers, DALLY POST PRESS offers a gathering place. Here, the working music of the range meets the durable art of the line—and the story rides on.
