About Eudora Welty: Eudora Alice Welty (1909-2001) was a notable American writer and photographer. She won the Pulitzer prize in 1973 for her novel The Optimist’s Daughter. During the Great Depression of the 1930s, she worked as a publicity agent for the Works Progress Administration. During her tenure there, she made a photographic record of the social conditions of the time. Two collections of those photographs have been published to critical and popular acclaim. She continued to pursue her interest in photography into the 1950’s. O:JA&L was unable to locate Welty photographs in the public domain and was therefore unable to provide examples here.
