OJAL Art Incorporated (OAI), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation registered in California, has published a wide range of artistic content since 2017 as OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L) and its imprint Buttonhook Press.

OJAL Art Incorporated has IMMEDIATE NEED for one dedicated volunteer to serve as on the OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L) team as Associate Editor for Content Development.

O:JA&L offers a range of contemporary aesthetic experiences made available through several media platforms. O:JA&L has as its primary ambition to gather, publish, and popularize notable contemporary writing and other fine arts and to promote the work of its contributors to a varied and discerning audience in the English-speaking world and beyond. O:JA&L offers its audience the opportunity to sample an array of artistic expressions presented by both emerging and established contemporary artists, writers, musicians, and videographers from around the world. O:JA&L was founded in 2017. O:JA&L claims nearly 10,000 unique visitors per month on the website, 20,000 Twitter followers, 15,000 InstaGram followers, 16,000 connections at LinkedIn through our editors’ profiles, and growing followings on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, Xing, Gettr, MeWe, and in eastern Europe on VK. The O:JA&L Youtube and Rumble Channels are also growing.

Qualifications:

The qualified candidate for Associate Editor for Content Development with O:JA&L will be able to commit to 10 hours of work per month; will be able to read, write, and speak English with at least near-native fluency; will be able to document current enrollment at an accredited institution of higher learning in a degree-granting program in English, Journalism, Fine Arts or related field, will demonstrate strong skills in the use of WordPress, Trello, and other digital media publishing platforms; will be well-spoken, polite, other-centered with strong interpersonal skills; and will be able to furnish compelling references attesting to, among other things, the applicant’s integrity, reliability, tactfulness, self-discipline, and unblemished work (or academic) record. Qualified candidates should expect to participate in a training program of several weeks with the title of Editorial Intern for Content Development displayed on the Mast Head.

The ideal candidate for Associate Editor for Content Development will be able to commit to a modest and flexible work schedule of up to 10 hours per month, will have command of two or more languages, will have a bachelor’s degree or an MFA or other advanced degree in a related field, and a resume/portfolio of representative professional-quality credits. The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate an ability to create competent commentary on both historic and contemporary art theory, aesthetics, or interpretations of contemporary and classic literary matter and will demonstrate strong skills in the use of WordPress, Trello, and other digital media publishing platforms.

· Monitoring – Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
· Writing – Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

Duties of the O:JA&L Associate Editor for Content Development:

1. Collaborates with a cooperating production editor
2. Curates, solicits, or creates and edits all content on OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L) both as the Journal (website) and as its press imprint, including content in languages other than English
3. collaborates with leadership and other staff to manage a regular flow of content to ensure effective communication of the mission, principles, and vision of OJAL Art Incorporated, publishing since 2017 as OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L) and its imprint Buttonhook Press
4. collaborates with leadership and other staff to ensure that content mobilizes people, content, and production effectively
5. collaborates in the use analytics to improve engagement and reach of OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L) both as the Journal (website) and as its press imprint
6. collaborates with leadership and other staff to improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters(O:JA&L) both as the Journal (website) and as its press imprint
7. Reviews all static content on the website annually and recommends updates as necessary
8. collaborates with leadership and other staff to source compelling images and video for the video channels of OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L) both as the Journal (website) and as its press imprint
9. Sets up and/or manages specific sections of OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L) both as the Journal (website) and as its press imprint
10. solicits submissions of literary art, studio art, and dramatic art features and insures that all rights of contributing artists are protected according to the O:JA&L Submissions guidelines and licensing requirements
11. collaborates with leadership and other staff to establish guidelines for all categories of submissions and to curate all fine arts submissions on the O:JA&L Submittable page
12. as assigned by senior editors, develops and oversees contests and awards for dramatic arts
13. prepares and posts selections to the O:JA&L WordPress site (suggested/negotiable)
14. collaborates with leadership and staff in the management O:JA&L’s Tumblr and Instagram and other social media accounts, including video channels (suggested/negotiable)
15. collaborates with leadership to help lead the development of OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters(O:JA&L) both as the Journal (website) and as its press imprint Buttonhook Press so that it best serves our audience and contributors
16. collaborates with leadership and other staff in the use of HTML and CSS knowledge to implement development
17. collaborates with third-party web developers and IT specialists to improve OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters(O:JA&L) both as the Journal (website) and as its press imprint Buttonhook Press
18. collaborates with leadership and other staff in the development of an annual program of updates and improvements to OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters (O:JA&L) both as the Journal (website) and as its press imprint Buttonhook Press
