O:JA&L Poetry: All forms & styles
Naa Asheley Ashitey
somewhere, in between,
I am simply searching for peace

i
Stars do not rush into their death.
Each atom splits off,
peacefully caving into the night sky,
With no concept of questioning
if they had repented enough for their remains
to end up in the good place.
Or guilt about the nights it failed to
Shine through dense fogs,
lighting a clear path forward
that would’ve kept the forest free
from having to build itself
Around fallen corpses.
ii
It follows a cycle of burning and fading.
Time chews in on itself,
And finds a pillow to rest on,
peacefully transcending over evanescence moves.
iii
Everything is collapsing
as the transformation proceeds
and the second hand on the clock proceeds to the next tick.
I am cradled with the discomfort of understanding that
endurance is not the same as peace.
Another atom flickers away
and I close my eyes
And decide to live a life
that searches for a similar truth.
