O:JA&L Poetry: All forms & styles
Andrew Furst
wait

1
huddled around,
mimicking the ellipses of the planets.
eyes trained
on the fire.
a surrogate of
the stiffening sun
we are waiting.
2
we ache to reach the constellations,
blind to the cold death of it.
we wait,
like the diseased
believing there is a cure.
all of us.
waiting.
3
in seconds, in minutes,
decades and so on,
we measure our constructions,
our lethargy, and age.
but we do not circle the sun
like rocks and dust.
we reckon with the wait.
