Keith T. Fancher
Mendonoma

alive and
looking up through a hollow of tinder
cupped loose in the palms like a bird’s nest
something fragile yet explosive
the other half of the spark
and breath
the trees are
the praying arms of underground giants
the soon-to-be-walking
dead
ten million needles each catching
a different light
the spark and thread
of smoke
we’ve every one of us
felt certain it’s never been done before
