About the writer:
ERIN CASTALDI is an avid traveler, rolling up her experiences in new places and with new people, as the inspiration for her writing. She writes Japanese short form poetry and long form memoir prose poetry primarily. Traveling the United States in an RV with her husband and two Bassett Hounds for a year has encouraged her to focus on her interactions with the natural world, in its many forms. Experiencing the beauty and ferocity of our environment is tantamount to her style. Her writing tackles themes of nature and our place within it as well as issues that accompany being a woman with a chronic illness. Erin has appeared in all of the top short form journals as well as those that publish the best of contemporary poetry today. Some of them are: The Decadent Review, Hong Kong Review, Le Piccioletta Barca, Akitsu Quarterly, Heron’s Nest, Presence, Blithe Spirit, Frogpond, Wales Haiku Journal, Modern Haiku, Alien Buddha Press, Chrysanthemum, Asahi Haikuist, #FemKuMag, ChaNo Keburi, Prune Juice, Hedgerow, tsuri-doro, Mayfly, Failed Haiku, and Japan Society; as well as at least two dozen anthologies in print and online. She has attended the International Haiku Conference 2019 in St. Albans U.K. Erin Castaldi has also participated in the previous two Haiku North America Conference’s, 2017 and 2019. Winning third place in the Wild Plum Haiku Contest 2019, she was nominated twice for a Touchstone Award for a single haiku in 2019 and 2021 and three for 2022. She has earned an honorable mention in the Green Pencil Haiku Contest 2018, another at the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Haiku Contest 2020, as well as in the Kaji Aso Studio International Haiku Contest 2021. She is the winner of Encircle Publications 12th Annual Chapbook Contest 2022. She has had work translated into Japanese, Croatian, Romanian, Italian, German, and Chinese. Erin’s current positions include Poet Laureate of the city of Somers Point, New Jersey, and former Social Media Manager for The Haiku Society of America (HSA), the largest haiku organization in North America. She has edited the Haiku Society of America’s Member’s Anthology 2021. In a former life, she was employed as a Surveillance Officer in a large casino in Atlantic City and an Emergency Medical Technician(EMT). She currently operates a small business thriving nationally and is raising newborn twin boys.
