@bozorio is the visual signature of 25-year-old Matheus Barreto of Brazil, a photographer, videographer, graphic designer, and an interdisciplinary art student at Federal University of South Bahia(UFSB).
The unique artworks Barreto presents in his online portfolio have been exclusively produced and edited in smartphones. His intention behind this practice is to startle his viewers, to encourage them to be more aware of the infinite possibilities of art that lie close at hand, and to encourage them to notice for themselves the beauty of world where we live.
Barreto’s unconventional use of the everyday tools and commonplace technologies that surround us all transforms them, literally repurposes them, and puts them to the service of art with the hope that these images, these xamanic interpretations of nature, will be able to help his viewers see the world as a living organism and to respect the magic of the enviroment that surrounds us.
Barreto realizes that the forces that shape the universe are the same forces that give us physical form, are the same forces that shape every single organism and every single set of circumstances and conditions in our world. In his art, he attempts to demonstrate that all things, despite all their apparent dissimilarities, are intimately connected through inescapable cosmic webs of cause and effect.
Baretta is a “Positive Existentialist,” and through his photographic memes, he instructs his viewers in ways to see and accept life as an infinite variety of unpredictable events and in ways to develop the necessary resilience and adaptability to cope with whatever might occur.
The principal ideal expressed in Barreto’s @bozorio profile, influenced as it is by surrealism, pop art, and shamanistic philosophy, is that out of the everyday chaos of colors, textures and forms comes art, comes a beautiful idea of life.
