Open: Journal of Arts & Letters will consider CONTEST submissions of flash fiction, short fiction, and creative nonfiction (CNF) as flash essay or memoir WITH A SOURCE IN MYTHOLOGY.

Any mythic tradition may form the basis for the work. Submitters should include a link to the source material as part of the submission.

Previously published works are not accepted. Simultaneous submissions are not accepted in this category.

Submissions will be accepted only through the O:JA&L Submissions manager. AN ENTRY FEE OF $8.97 (USD) APPLIES.

Manuscript entries may contain ONLY ONE piece. Each Contest Entry may contain no more than 1,000 words, counting its title, byline and any epigraph.

SUBMIT ONLY ONE TITLE IN EACH FILE. SUBMIT AN ENTRY FEE FOR EACH FILE. AN UNLIMITED NUMBER OF ENTRIES IS PERMITTED TO SUBMITTERS PROVIDED THE FEE IS PAID FOR EACH. ALL ENTRIES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR PUBLICATION.

A cover letter should include the writer’s contact information, the title of the work, the type of work (fiction, nonfiction, memoir, etc.), and the writer’s professional biography of 100 words or less in third person. Submitters should include a link to the myth/source material as part of the submission.

O:JA&L claims first international rights, first North American rights, and the right to archive the accepted works on its website and to consider them for inclusion in future collections and anthologies to be compiled and published by the O:JA&L imprint BUTTONHOOK PRESS.

All other rights revert to the author upon publication. OPEN: Journal of Arts & Letters asks to be identified as first publisher if published works are reprinted elsewhere.
